Guide

Congratulations on your new secure, encrypted phone! We've pre-installed GrapheneOS and essential apps for maximum security and privacy. Here's what you need to know to get started quickly and customize your phone to your needs. Documentation for the operating system, GrapheneOS, can be found by clicking here .

1. Change and customize passwords and emergency passwords (wipe passwords)

  • Go to Settings > Security > Device unlock to change your password or PIN.

  • For maximum security, we recommend a strong password (at least 12 characters, combination of letters, numbers and symbols). You can also have only numbers, but this is less secure.

  • Your emergency password/emergency PIN must be different from your regular password for it to trigger a phone reset when entered.

2. Apps and updates

  • The phone comes with pre-installed apps like Obtainium to allow you to download and update apps safely without Google Play.

  • Open Obtainium to add apps from official developer sources (GitHub, GitLab, etc.). Click this link for step-by-step instructions.

Step-by-step

  1. Open Obtainium
Find the app in your app list and launch it.

  2. Add a new app
Tap the + icon at the bottom right.

  3. Enter the source URL

    • Go to the app's official page (e.g. GitHub, GitLab, or the developer's website).

    • Copy the link to the release page or APK file.

    • Paste the link into Obtainium and press Add .

  4. Select update source

    • Obtainium automatically detects where it should download updates from.

    • Check that the source is the official one and press Save .

  5. Install the app

    • Tap the app's name in the list and select Install .

    • Give Obtainium permission to install apps if you get a prompt.

  6. Keep the app updated

    • Obtainium regularly checks for new versions.

    • You will receive a notification when an update is available – install it directly from Obtainium.

Safety tips

  • Only add apps from known and verified sources.

  • Make sure the link starts with https:// and is directly from the developer.

  • Avoid adding apps from unknown forums, blogs, or third-party links.

3. Customize privacy settings

  • Go to Settings > Apps & notifications > [App name] > Permissions to control what each app can access (camera, microphone, location, etc.).

  • Use GrapheneOS features for location precision and network control to minimize data sharing.

4. Backup and Restore

  • Your phone is designed to protect your data, but we recommend that you regularly back up important files to an encrypted external drive or via secure cloud services (non-Google).

  • If necessary, you can reset your phone to factory settings via Settings > System > Reset .

Tips for maximum safety

  • Always enable Auto Reboot (the phone will restart and require a password after a certain time).

  • Avoid signing in with your Google account to reduce data tracking.

  • Use VPN or Tor for anonymous browsing. We recommend Mullvad VPN.

  • Only use apps from trusted sources like GitHub.
